
A verb is a word that expresses existence, action, or occurrence. There are several types of verbs. It is important for you to understand linking verbs, helping verbs, and action verbs.

Activity:
Where can you find lots of action words? In the sports pages, course! Here's your assignment:
1. Visit Sports Illustrated for Kids, The Desert Trail, or The Hi-Desert Star.
2. Read one or two interesting sports articles.
3. Find at least 15 unique verbs and write them down on a sheet of paper.
4. Do you remember that a thesaurus will help you find words that have similar meanings? Well, use the thesaurus on-line (or a traditional thesaurus) to find an alternative word for each of your verbs. Write them down, too.
5. Use Microsoft Word to list the 15 verbs and a synonym for each.
EX: walk = trod
6. Make sure that your name and "Verbs Activity" are centered at the top of your paper.
7. Print your work to add to your "Virtual Field Trip Booklet."
